Reflections of Elephants, 1937

Optical illusion and surrealism from the Spanish artist Salvador Dali. Focusing on a double-image that causes the reflections of swans on a pond to appear like elephants; reflections of trunks and ears, rather than necks and wings, while a tree-covered shore behind the swans becomes the elephants' legs and bodies. A self-portrait of Dali appears on the left, while the male figure is Dali's friend and patron, the British poet Edward James.
