Enormous Art Online: Mural Hanging Instructions
- Be Prepared. A clean, dry wall prepared with a primer-sealer is best. Your wall should be smooth - textured walls are not suitable for this product. If your wall is uneven, we suggest using a liner paper and perhaps one or two coats of cheap latex paint. If your wall had a gloss paint coating, a quick rub with sandpaper to roughen the suface will allow for better adhesion. Make sure all dust is removed using a damp cloth and sugar soap and allow the wall to completely dry before applying your mural.
- Before you start, lay the mural out dry to inspect each panel to ensure the the picture features line up on adjacent panels and any trimming can be undertaken as necessary.
- We suggest this is a 2-person project. The individual panels are large and it is difficult for one person to hold and position the panel in place.
- Make a plumb line to ensure that your first panel is hung straight. Lining up to a corner or door is not a good idea as it may not be a true straight line, particularly in older properties.
- Install your panels so that you are always working on adjacent sections - and don't stop until it's done. Start with a bottom panel so that the top panel will overlap a few millimetres. This minimizes the seam from showing.
- The panels can expand up to 10mm when wet and then contract a bit as they dry. Again, this is why we recommend spray mount adhesive, which also allows for repositioning.
- Unlike wallpaper, a wall mural will have it's edges overlapped slightly. This helps to prevent the seams from showing after they dry
- The most difficult murals to install are those with vertical or horizontal features that expand over multiple panels (for example, the branch of a tree, or a palm on the beach). Take extra care when lining up the product. Make sure you do not get the panel too wet as this can cause stretching and misalignment.
- DO NOT GET THE MURAL TOO WET. We recommend using a spray mount adhesive for installation, which will also allow for repositioning. If you have to use wallpaper paste use it sparingly. The Murals are not wallpaper. They are made of paper and will stretch and damage if they get too wet.
- Using a professional installer? - Make sure they read the instructions and don't try to hang this like wallpaper (it's not)
Wall Mural FAQ's
- Can they be installed outside? No. These are inside products. They are not waterproof.
- Could we put them in a bathroom? We don't recommend installing a mural in the bathroom or kitchen, due to excess humidity. If you wish to do so, a couple of applications of a clear coat varnish can help seal and protect your mural.
- Can we install them over paneling or texture wall surface? Paneling and textured surfaces are not recommended. A smooth surface will give you the best results. Liner paper is available at DIY shops and will provide a smooth surface for your mural installation.
- What is the quality of the image? The extra large 8 sheet murals are designed to be viewed from a few feet away. Viewing from too close will allow the pixellation from the printing process to be seen.
- Are the murals difficult to remove? If your wall was prepared with a primer-sealer, soap & warm water is generally all that is needed.
- What if the Mural is slightly too big for my wall? The murals edges can be trimmed using a razor blade or sharp Stanley knife. You must wait until the mural is completely dry before trimming otherwise there is a risk of tearing.
