Eating Above Manhattan

Taken by photographer Charles C Ebbets in 1932, this famous and iconic photograph shows 11 men eating their lunch, feet dangling from a girder hundreds of feet above New York City. Taken from the 69th floor, the men look not in the slightest bit vertiginous at the drop below their feet as they take a break from constructing the GE Building, the centrepiece of the Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan.
